around the grand opening of
the new remote sensing laboratory
on the campus of Elizabeth
City State University. Dignitaries
from partner universities,
sponsoring activities and ECSU
were on hand for a variety
of events centered around remote
sensing and its use. |

December 16-18, 2002 CERSER sponsored
Part 2 of the EARTH Training
Workshop with Pixoneer. Dr. Mohamed
Mohamed trained workshop participants
on EARTH software for remote
sensing education. The training
consisted of three days of lecture
and hands-on labs. |

Direct Readout Users Conference

hosted the Satellite Direct Readout
Users Conference for the Americas
December 9-13, 2002, in Miami,
Florida. The purpose of this
Conference was to bring together
users of the NOAA GOES geostationary
and POES polar orbiting satellites,
potential users of the forthcoming
METOP polar orbiting satellite
comprising part of the Initial
Joint Polar-Orbiting Operational
Satellite System, and the future
NOAA NPOESS. |

Pixoneer Software for Remote

On
Monday, October 7 and Tuesday,
October 8, 2002, Dr. Mohamed
Mohamed presented a workshop
on EARTH: Pixoneer Software for
Remote Sensing Education. The
purpose of the workshop was to
introduce and discuss a remote
sensing class curriculum using
EARTH software by Pixoneer. This
course provides an introduction
to electromagnetic spectrum,
basic spectral properties of
earth surface features, energy
interaction with the atmosphere,
and spectral response patterns
of surface features. |
