EDUCATION AND OUTREACH - EVENTS
eo1Art Contest, Exhibits, and Seminars
Students in grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 provided a visual insight into how experiences at IGARSS‘08 impacted them. Participants used the highlights of IGARSS 2008 including registration, exhibits, people, posters, etc. to design an IGARSS 2008 Mousepad. Awards were presented to the winners.

Earthzine Interviews
Earthzine interviewed symposium participants to share with the Earth observing community. Questions included what changes do you see in your environment? How have Earth images shaped your view of the world? Earthzine is a publication of IEEE that aims to foster greater awareness of the Earth through observation.

Mathematics of Remote Sensing
Student teams brought their collective wisdom to the solution of mathematics problems related to remote sensing and climate change. Teams were challenged to solve 20 multiple choice mathematics questions. Awards were presented to each member of the winning teams.

Essay Contest
Students were able to write and essay based on their experiences at IGARSS'08. They gained information from vendors and participants while visiting the education/outreach booths in the exhibit hall. Winning essays will be published on the Earthzine Web Site: http://www.earthzine.org. The essays included quotes from exhibitors, the types of vendors and products, information gained from exhibitors and workshops and and overall impression of IGARSS'08.

eo2Forest Watch
Forest Watch is a K-12 science outreach program begun at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) in 1991 that engages pre-college students in providing researchers with a significant amount of reliable data on annual responses of white pine (Pinus strobes) to ground-level ozone across the New Englandregion. The Forest Watch workshop presented key components of this successful outreach program and participants had the opportunity to discuss aspects of their own research that may be appropriate for use in developing similar K-12 programs for schools in their own area.
