On April 24th and 25th, 2013, Dr. Linda Hayden, Director of the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research (CERSER) at Elizabeth City State University hosted the National Science Foundation (NSF) site visit for the Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS). Representatives from NSF and various other institutions made up the review panel while others from institutions affiliated with the CReSIS program also were present. Students and faculty from Norfolk State University, Winston-Salem State University, and Spelman College were also present representing the Association of Computer and Information Science/Engineering Departments at Minority Institutions (ADMI) organization. ECSU Chancellor Willie Gilchrist welcomed the site visit attendees to the campus during the opening remarks.
CReSIS is a Science and Technology Center established by the NSF in 2005, with the mission of developing new technologies and computer models to measure and predict the response of sea level change to the mass balance of ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica.
