The Thirteenth Annual West Antarctic Ice Sheet initiative (WAIS) Workshop was held in Eatonville, Washington September 26-30. The workshop is a continuing series which is the primary means for exchanging information and ideas pertinent to WAIS. An exclusive, multidisciplinary group of Antarctic scientists that are pursuing the WAIS goals of understanding how rapid global climate changes occur and how the potentially unstable West Antarctic ice sheet may affect future sea level gathered for this workshop.
Representing Elizabeth City State University were Dr. Malcolm LeCompte, Research Associate with the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing and Education (CERSER), and Jerome Mitchell, CERSER research student. Jerome Mitchell participated in a poster presentation during the conference. The title of his research was "Mapping the Antarctic's near-surface air temperature trends using satellite and in-situ observations".
Also attending WAIS were students from Jackson State University and Jarvis Christian College.
